Windows XP build 2600 is the official RTM build of Windows XP, released to manufacturers on 24 August 2001 and then to the general public two months later on 25 October 2001 with two main versions: Home Edition and Professional. PC manufacturers could sell PCs with XP pre-installed on 24 September 2001. A version of this build exists for Intel Itanium 64-bit processors, and further serves as the base for Windows XP Embedded, a customizable, componentized version of the operating system designed for embedded computers. It was uploaded by warez group Devils0wn on 29 August 2001, approximately two months before Windows XP became generally available and five days after it was released to manufacturers. On 20 September 2001, an infamous photograph of an individual holding a Professional SKU disc copy of this build near Microsoft's headquarters was taken and later published online. The RTM build number used by this release is a tongue-in-cheek reference to the magazine 2600: The Hacker Quarterly.
